Happy Feast of Saint Nicholas!

A Prayer to St. Nicholas

O good St. Nicholas, you who are the joy of the children, put in my heart the spirit of childhood, which the gospel speaks, and teach me to seed happiness around me. You, whose feast prepares us for Christmas, open my faith to the mystery of God made man. You, good bishop and shepherd, help me to find my place in the Church and inspire the Church to be faithful to the gospel. O good Saint Nicholas, patron of children, sailors and the helpless, watch over those who pray to Jesus, your Lord and theirs, as well as over those who humble themselves before you. Bring us all in reverence to the Holy Child of Bethlehem, when true joy and peace are found. Amen.

Congratulations Ernie Rossi!

Ernie Rossi proudly showing off his new plaque
Monday evening, our esteemed Delegate HE Cav. John M. Viola presented Ernie Rossi of E.Rossi & Company (193 Grand St.) in Little Italy, New York, a beautiful plaque emblazoned with the Coat of Arms of Royal House of Bourbon–Two Sicilies on behalf of HRH Prince Carlo di Borbone–Due Sicilie, Duke of Castro. The honor was bestowed to Mr. Rossi in recognition of his efforts to share the history and culture of the Two Sicilies through the many products he carries in his store.
The Prince discovered Ernie’s shop back in September of this year while inspecting the fairgrounds of the Feast of San Gennaro during the Royal Family’s visit to Little Italy. Spotting a window display with t-shirts and Argenio Napoli products bearing the royal coat-of-arms, the Prince couldn’t resist visiting the shop and meeting the proprietor. Fondly recalling the warmth and hospitality offered by Mr. Rossi during that chance encounter, Prince Carlo conferred upon him this sincere token of gratitude.

Vernacular Poetry of Southern Italy Translated by Cav. Charles Sant’Elia

Cav. Charles Sant’Elia
In addition to the promulgation of the faith and charitable works, our very own Cav. Charles Sant’Elia, in conjunction with the website Il Regno, has been assiduously translating the Neapolitan, Calabrian, and Sicilian verse of contemporary and historical Duosiciliani poets into English, many for the first time, as part of the US Delegation’s cultural mission to foster knowledge of the former Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the Royal Family.

Most recently, Cav. Sant’Elia tackled the epic ‘O Luciano d’’o Re by the great Neapolitan poet Ferdinando Russo. Beginning on November 25th, the 152nd anniversary of Russo’s birthday, the annotated poem was published in three installments due to its length. Links to the work have been provided below.

‘O Luciano d’’o Re - The King’s Luciano (Parts I-III)
‘O Luciano d’’o Re - The King’s Luciano (Parts IV-VI)
‘O Luciano d’’o Re - The King’s Luciano (Parts VII-IX)

A two-way street, it has been confirmed that Cav. Sant’Elia has translated Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven into Neapolitan. This is scheduled to be published on January 19, 2019, like with Russo, in honor of the Poe’s 210th birthday.

Happy Feast of Saint Cecilia!

Prayer to Saint Cecilia

O glorious saint, who chose to die instead of denying your King, we pray you please to help us as His fair praise we sing. We lift our hearts in joyous song to honor Him this way. And while we sing, remember-ing, to sing is to doubly pray. At once in our hearts and in our tongues we offer double prayer sent heavenward on winged notes to praise God dwelling there. While in our hearts and tongues we try with song to praise God twice, we ask dear saint, to help us be united close to Christ! Amen.

Happy Feast of San Giuseppe Moscati!

Prayer to Saint Giuseppe Moscati

Dear St. Joseph Moscati, true model of Christian doctors, in the exercise of your medical profession, you always took care of both the body and soul of every patient. Look on us, who have recourse to your heavenly intercession, and obtain for us both physical and spiritual health, and a share in the dispensation of heavenly favors. Soothe the pains of our suffering people; give comfort to the sick, consolation to the afflicted and hope to the despondent. May our young people find in you an ideal, our workers an example, the aging a comfort, the dying the hope of eternal salvation. To all of us be a pattern of industriousness, honesty and charity; so we may comply with our Christian duties and glorify God our Father. Amen.
